Please allow me to introduce...

Bobea!!!

In the midst of San Diego July heat, Miss Bobea begins her Camp to-do list. For the next camp season of course! Obviously on top of her game, it is not hard to see she is a veteran when it comes to CR4TS. Back for her 6th year at Siblings, Gea Bobea will play a dual role in 2012, returning as Programs Director and assisting as Co-Director. A round of applause indeed.

As part of the leadership team, camp season really starts to roll come January, when leadership gets together to plan the up-coming summer, as well as "develop their unity" which Bobea states is very important.
"Camp is like a 2nd home to me. It is the most challenging and fun week of my year. I get to be immersed with 150+ people who love to laugh and have fun. It is a magical place that cultivates creativity and self- expression for everyone. I love to see the campers start as shy children and develop into adults who are comfortable with themselves and with their life situations."

As January transitions into spring, Bobea looks forward to all the unexpected moments, hilarious quotes and pure joy that she knows awaits her. She also can’t wait to be in the mess hall, "not only do I love to eat, but also I love to see everyone together."

When, and finally, Camp does roll around, Gea can be found all over camp - dropping water off at Paintball, double checking the supplies at Arts & Crafts or for the field, making preparations for the dance, coordinating Food Wheel, and a million other things. And with all the craziness, it is no wonder her favorite camp moment is Saturday, the last day of Camp, and definitely not because we get to go home.

Something special to SIBS is Talk Time, where the campers get to hang out with Gordon and Lori throughout the week in the cool and relaxing atmosphere of the chapel. On Saturday, once we have said farewell to the campers, with tears and laughs, us staff gather in the chapel to "read all the anonymous notes from the kids about what camp means to them" as well as share in their artwork. This is a time reserved for reflection and staff bonding, and truly makes SIBS and CR4TS the powerful vitamin it is.

As a fellow counselor, I was curious as to how Bobea returned to reality after a week at camp and am always looking for suggestions (something I am sure others feel as well); "I have a good meal with my sisters and family, to talk about everything that happened during the week, drink an adult beverage and sleep for about 12 hours." Sounds about right.

So whether lol’ing about Cota in that Garfield outfit, or singing "Its a 60's party from a 60's movie....." (actions included of course), Bobea holds Camp with her all year long. And patiently, yet excitedly, takes a clean sheet of paper from her notebook to begin again.

Camp Makes a Difference...
