Rock the Vote: Sami Camp Name Proposal

Here at Camp Reach for the Sky, us counselors are given nicknames that we go by at camp. These nicknames could relate to a favorite hobby or activity, or just be a childhood alias that has stuck. Regardless of the nickname, it makes things more fun. We don't want our camp roster looking like a baby-naming book with regular name after regular name. Instead, our lineup is full of names like Yoda, Pinky, Bubbles, and Elf. The story behind each nickname is unique, and each name is permanent. Once a name is chosen, the name stays with the counselor for their entire Camp Reach for the Sky career. The campers learn the names and it would create a situation more confusing than Inception if counselors were changing their nicknames anytime they want. But once every hundred years or so, a situation comes along that warrants further examination and possible bending of the rules…and this is such a scenario. Hulkamaniacs

A huge congratulations to Christopher HULK Ramirez for being awarded the American Cancer Society's Patient Courage Award for 2010. Throughout the years Chris has been involved with the American Cancer Society through Camp Reach for the Sky, the Southern California Courageous Kids Day, Relay For Life, Cancer Prevention Study 3 and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Chris is also very involved with S.O.M.B.F.A.B and the annual Celebration of Champions through Rady Children's Hospital. AND, Chris is involved with the Leukemia Lymphoma Society's Camp Agape. Needless to say, Chris holds a very special place in his heart for the pediatric cancer population. HULK's passion for camp is intoxicating, from the very first day the campers step off the bus to the day when we say goodbye and look forward to the next year. Camp Theme Days!!!

early 20th century Singer machine The time is now to shout out your ideas for the CR4TS camp theme days this summer. The theme days will be decided on in a couple of weeks. Please post your ideas in the comments section underneath this posting, OR post your ideas on the Facebook page, OR Tweet it to us. We had a lot of really cool suggestions last year. Time to get creative and come up with some new ideas for this year. Do it now before we pull the trigger on "Early American History of Sewing Machines Day..."
